Top Reasons to get a Video for your Business
I strongly believe that every business, no matter the product or service it offers, can benefit from producing videos. This is why…
1. Videos keep a persons attention literally 10x longer than text does.
That means that when you need to get an important message across, video is most likely the best way to do it. Watching video is a passive medium, meaning it doesn’t require much active processing in the mind of an individual, whereas reading does require active processing. Don’t get me wrong, I love reading and believe in it strongly, but the Internet is a medium where users have a short attention span. I’m being hypocritical just by writing this message but it’s unreasonable to make a video for every single message, except for the most important ones. The fact of the matter is, more people will
receive and retain more of your message that with text.
2. Videos can say more in less time.
Due to the highly a.d.d. and nonlinear nature of the web and due to the fact that a picture is worth a thousand words, you can digress more information with a video than with text, in a shorter amount of time. You can sometimes explain yourself better with a wordy article, but halfway through, you’ve lost the majority of your users. Videos tie things up in a nice, tidy package.
3. People are more likely to share video.
I don’t have the immediate statistics on hand at the moment but people are much more likely to share your message if it’s packaged into a video. This is one of the main drivers of viral video. Videos are quick, easy and shared with a click. The more people that share your video, the more people that see your video.
4. Videos greatly improve your search engine ranking.
Businesses and the people that operate them are becoming more and more familiar with the idea and importance of seo (search engine optimization). Producing relevant content is a huge factor in how search engines determine your ranking and video is the easiest way to greatly increase that ranking.
5. Videos drive users to your site.
Using logos and links in your videos is a great way to promote brand awareness and recognition as well as drive users to your website. This concept relates back to the fact that people are more likely to share a video than an article. When you create and post a video, users will see it on YouTube as well as from their friends Facebook feeds, so including these logos and links in your videos will drive offsite web users to your website.
I hope this list is a good indicator to you of the importance in creating videos for your business. So far these are the main ones and I will revisit this to add more reasons as I go along building my site and web presence.
